Our Advisory BoardBetty L. Thompson: Pruitt-Igoe resident, activist, and former Missouri State Representative. Currently serving as Director of the Kwame Foundation Inc. (more info) Sylvester Brown, Jr.: One of St. Louis’ most beloved writers and journalists. Mr. Brown lived in Pruitt-Igoe as a child and wrote extensively of his experiences there in a multi-part article for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. (more info) Ruby Russell: Former resident Ruby Russell describes herself as “one of the first to move in, and one of the very last to leave” Pruitt-Igoe. In her time there she held a leadership role in the Tennant Affairs Board and was among the key figures involved in the rent strike. Robert Fishman: A Professor of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan. He is a nationally recognized expert in the areas of urban history and urban policy and planning. He has authored several books regarded as seminal texts, on the history of cities and urbanism including Bourgeois Utopias: The Rise and Fall of Suburbia (1987) and Urban Utopias in the Twentieth Century: Ebenezer Howard, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Le Corbusier (1977). His most recent work is on “ex-urbs.” (more info) Joseph Heathcott: An Associate Professor of Urban Studies at the New School. He has written several of the most extensive academic studies available on the subject of Pruitt-Igoe. He is in the process of writing a book on Pruitt-Igoe. (more info) Danielle DiGiacomo: The Community Manager at IFP, the the nation’s oldest and largest membership organization and advocate for independent filmmakers. Prior to her current appointment, she worked for 5 years as Head of Documentary Acquisitions for IndiePix Films. Kerri Yost: A documentary filmmaker and chair of the Mass Media and Digital Filmmaking department at Stephens College. She is also the founder and director of the Citizen Jane Film Festival. Jody Sowell: A public historian with the Missouri History Museum. His specialties include oral history and post World War II urban history.
